How to find a job, love and money on Twitter – part TWO

2009 April 14

So, quite a few people got their careers sorted out on Twitter yesterday by the looks of things. Now all we need to do is sort out your love life and finances.

If you haven’t already read my ‘how to find a job on Twitter’ post, read it here.

Right – now for love.

How to find love on Twitter

Is your next love just a tweet away? Probably not. I’m surprised, to be honest with you. I’d love to say that  a pool of gorgeous women and men are waiting on Twitter for you to follow, gaze upon and chirp with. But I can’t.

You’ll find Twitter tools, coaching tools, business tools, marketing tools – but not many LOVE tools on Twitter. Why not then? Is it just too cheesy? Not enough space to declare your undying love? Who knows. All I know is that I have scoured the web on your behalf and not found much love, about love, on Twitter at all.

However, all is not lost. Here are some decent sites. When I say ‘decent’ I mean just be careful if/when you type ‘love’ into Twitter’s search tool. I did – and I was disturbed. So believe me, these sites are relatively decent – in every sense of the word.

Twitterbirds

This site is apparently the only group for singles on Twitter. So you should find love quickly. And with just 140 characters, it is speed-dating on the internet.

Off you go then – time to meet your very own Twitterbird.

Twitcrush

See, I like this one! Just go and declare your crush on Twitter – job done. No waiting around for the odd tweet.

To get started on TwitCrush, just login and enter the names of your crushes. Then view all users who have a crush on any twitter user, just by entering their username. More importantly, view those who have declared a crush on you.

Twintro

Twintro helps you discover the ‘most interesting’ Twitter users – one at a time.

Follow Twintro on Twitter. Every day Twintro retweets a different user’s tweets to you. If you like that user, follow them. Sounds easy enough…

Twumped

Another one I like – for humour value at least. Twumped shows the twitter users who have recently split up, broken up or been dumped by their girlfriend or boyfriend. Then you can message the twitter account owner… Simple.

It’s a bit stalkerish really isn’t it? Hey, I was clutching at straws. And actually,  some of the tweets are quite funny, e.g. “XXXX you, and you stole my hairbrush. I’m glad it’s over, Twerp.”  Poetry.

Twitter doesn’t suffer fools, especially love fools

Do you know what? Don’t use Twitter to find love. Of course, you’ll find loads of dating sites that tweet. Sites that’ll seduce you to other seedier sites off Twitter. But that’s the beauty of Twitter – you can control who you follow. So terrible sites that prey on those desperate for love won’t prosper. Decent people will just ‘unfollow’.

Finding love should be a pleasant side effect of using Twitter. Not a reason for joining. Or hanging about on it, like a weirdo flasher at the local park.

Nope. If you’re looking for dating success, joining Twitter won’t make it any easier or faster. In fact it will be more challenging because you are more likely than others to chase useless ‘bots’ online. And frankly, they are so not romantic.

In the end, when it comes to meeting and attracting the kind of people that you want to be with, find them in the real world – or at least where you have more than 140 characters to convince them you’re not waiting for them at the park in a trench coat.
